Why I established my core values (& my values revealed)

I have always been the "black sheep" of my family. Not in the way where I became an outcast, but I have just always been different. I perceive the world differently, interact with faith and spirituality differently, have different morals and standards for justice and equality. Though they still love and accept me, having such opposing views to my loved ones has always been very difficult for me. When I was younger, I questioned myself constantly, letting them manipulate me into making choices that they felt were right, and I struggled to understand my place in the world because I was living a life where I spent a lot of time thinking, "what would my family think of this"?

As I'm sure so many of us can relate - living for others is exhausting.

My transformation didn't happen overnight, because I didn't even realize what I was missing in my life in order to make me feel confident in who I am and how I want to live my life. That missing "thing" was a defined values system which I now call my Personal Truth.

So what are my core values?

Truth: A dedication to being unapologetically me
Gratitude: An acknowledgment and expression of appreciation
Simplicity: An emphasis on only inviting what serves me into my life
Health: A commitment to energy and vitality
Growth: A willingness to learn and always remain open
Compassion: An openness to the experiences of all

Because I have established my values, I am more confident in my decisions, firm in my beliefs, and confident in how I live my life. Now I am able to:

  • set boundaries

  • walk my path outside of a conventional career

  • speak my truth, no matter how controversial

  • be okay with disappointing people or people not liking me

  • say no whenever my heart isn't fully in it

  • be in and listen to my body
